More Q&A about getting started with therapy

  • If you’re reading this, you’re probably already interested enough to give it a try. Therapy can benefit anyone seeking support with life challenges, mental health concerns, or just personal growth. You might consider starting therapy with me if you're experiencing persistent anxiety, feeling unfulfilled despite success, struggling with perfectionism or burnout, or simply wanting to improve your overall well-being and self-awareness.

  • Our first session, called an intake appointment, focuses on understanding your background, current challenges, and goals for therapy. It's a bit different than routine sessions. I’ll go over confidentiality, practice policies, and other important disclosures right away. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your mental health history, and what you hope to achieve. This is also an opportunity for us to start getting to know each other, so it’s a good time for you to ask questions and see how comfortable you feel as we talk.

  • Therapy duration varies based on your individual needs and goals. Some clients find relief in a few months, while others prefer longer-term support for deeper work. We'll regularly review your progress together and adjust our treatment plan as needed. I’m sure you’re eager to feel better, but there are no quick fixes. We’re going for sustainable, lasting change.

  • Most clients benefit from weekly sessions, especially when starting therapy. I prefer to schedule clients with a regular appointment time on the same day of the week at the same time for consistency. As you make progress, we may adjust to biweekly sessions. We'll work together to determine the frequency that best supports your goals and fits your schedule.

  • You'll need a private space with a reliable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or smartphone). A private space means you’re alone in the room with a closed door and feel comfortable speaking freely. I'll send you a secure video link before your session.
